Two-room saunas with a changing room
The most common reason to go custom is a second room laid out your way. In Ham Lake we built an 8x14 with a changing room ahead of the hot room and an IKI Mini Wood stove. In Monticello, an 8x16 wood-fired sauna has a dressing room and sits on a deck the owners extended for a cold plunge and an outdoor shower. In Longville, the dressing room opens onto an oversized porch for cooling off.
A changing room keeps snow and boots out of the hot room and gives you somewhere warm to sit between rounds. In a Minnesota winter it earns its space.

Built around a view
On a lake lot the window is the design. We have laid out saunas for the view of Clearwater Lake, the Mississippi River at Clear Lake, and Big Lake in Wisconsin, placing the benches first and the glass where the top bench looks.
Cladding and finish
Not every sauna should be black. The Becker build is clad in shou sugi ban, charred wood chosen for how long it lasts as much as how it looks. Others are sided to go with the house or cabin they sit beside. Inside, it is cedar on the walls, ceiling and benches.
Conversions, rebuilds and saunas on wheels
Some of our favorite jobs did not start from nothing. By Clearwater Lake we turned an old storage shed into a sauna with an IKI wood heater and a new cedar interior. Near Annandale we gutted an existing lakeside sauna and rebuilt it on the same footprint with new insulation, cedar, lighting and bigger windows.
We have also built two mobile saunas. One is an 8x16 for the north metro with cedar benches for up to 15 adults and a trap door in the dressing room floor for cold plunges on a frozen lake.
What moves the price: outdoor sauna pricing. How it gets to your yard: site work, delivery and installation.
