At the edge of Island Lake near Sturgeon Lake, Minnesota, this Tuli sits between the pines with a direct view of the water. It is a cabin sauna, and it suits the lot it stands on.
The exterior has gray board-and-batten siding, a flat shed roof with a cedar soffit, recessed lighting under the overhang, and a full glass-panel door that lets in daylight. Inside it is all cedar: walls, ceiling, benches and floor, fitted tight.
This one runs a gas-fired heater loaded with stones. You push a button, walk away, and come back to a hot sauna. At a cabin that matters. Nobody wants to tend a wood fire for an hour before every session, and a family cabin sees a lot of different people coming and going. A heater that is consistent and easy to start means the sauna gets used instead of sitting idle.
Window placement is what sets this build apart. From inside you get a clear sightline through the trees to the lake. Step out the door and the dock is a short walk away. We planned the layout around that order, sauna and then water. It works on a summer evening and on a cold morning in the off-season.
