One square mile, surrounded by Minnetrista
St. Bonifacius covers about one square mile, and the city of Minnetrista surrounds it on every side. Highway 7 and County Road 92 are the main roads, and the Dakota Rail Regional Trail runs through town. Most homes are single-family houses on in-town lots, with Minnetrista's fields and newer neighborhoods starting where the city limits end.
That shapes a sauna project in practical ways. An in-town backyard usually has neighbors on both sides and a garage or fence to work around, so we spend time on where the sauna sits and how it gets from the street to its base. The upside of a lot this size is that the house panel is close, which keeps the electrical run short if you choose an electric heater.
Mud Lake, Six Mile Creek and wet ground on the south side
St. Bonifacius has no Lake Minnetonka shoreline. The one lake close to town is Mud Lake, whose north edge follows the southern city boundary. Six Mile Creek flows out of Mud Lake, crosses the southeast corner of town and continues to Halsted Bay.
The city's comprehensive plan also notes marsh and wetland areas inside the city limits. If your yard backs up to low ground, tell us at the start. A sauna needs a dry, level spot, and it is much easier to pick that spot on paper than to fix drainage after the building arrives.
Buying from the shop in your own town
Being local to St. Boni changes small things that add up. A second look at the site before we build is a short drive. So is a stop after delivery to see how the sauna is settling in.
Every sauna we build is made to be used through a Minnesota winter. In town that mostly comes down to placement: close enough to the back door that the path gets shoveled, and turned so the window looks at something better than the neighbor's garage.
Which sauna fits a St. Bonifacius lot
For an in-town St. Bonifacius lot, the Kota (6x8, 4 to 6 bathers) fits where a bigger building would crowd the yard. The Tuli (8x12, 6 to 8 bathers) is the one most people choose, and the Superior (8x16, 8 or more bathers) suits the larger lots at the edge of town and the acreages just past it in Minnetrista. A Custom build covers one-off requests like a changing room or a covered porch.
More on how we build them: custom outdoor saunas. What they cost: pricing.
Delivery and site prep in St. Bonifacius
Delivery in St. Bonifacius is a short haul from our shop on local streets. Before the sauna moves, the site needs a level, solid base and, for an electric heater, power brought to the spot by a licensed electrician, which we help coordinate. We look at access during the site visit and plan the set around it, including gates, fences, overhead lines and how soft the yard is.
Building permits in St. Bonifacius are handled at the city office at City Hall, so ask there what an accessory building of your sauna's size needs on your lot. The city lies inside the Minnehaha Creek Watershed District; if your yard touches a wetland or the creek, ask whether the district has a say.
We can also handle the site work: the gravel pad or piers, the electrical trench and hookup, and building on site where a finished sauna will not fit through. The full rundown is on our site work, delivery and installation page.

Questions from St. Bonifacius
Saunas in St. Bonifacius, answered
Where is the Northern Steam shop in relation to St. Bonifacius?
Our shop is in St. Bonifacius. This is where our crew builds every sauna before it is delivered, so for a St. Boni address the trip is a few minutes on local streets. It also makes site visits simple. Call or text us and we will set a time to walk your yard and talk through the project.
Will an 8x12 sauna fit in a regular in-town backyard in St. Bonifacius?
Often it will, but the lot decides. The Tuli is 8x12 and the Kota is 6x8, and the right one comes down to your open yard space and where the city allows an accessory building to sit. We measure the yard and check the way in from the street at the site visit, then tell you plainly which size fits.
Have you built saunas near St. Bonifacius?
Yes. The closest builds we have published are in Minnetrista, the city that surrounds St. Bonifacius, and in Mound, the next town northeast. Both are Tuli saunas with IKI Pillar electric heaters. Minnetrista is as close as a neighbor gets: leave St. Boni in any direction and you are in it.
Should I choose wood-fired or electric for a sauna in town in St. Boni?
Either works, and we build both with IKI heaters. In town, think about the neighbors: a wood stove means a chimney and smoke a short distance from the next yard, plus a dry place for firewood. Electric needs a circuit run by an electrician and no fire tending. Ask the city office whether anything in the code affects a wood-burning stove on your lot.
