Fish Lake, Weaver Lake, Rice Lake, Eagle Lake and Cedar Island Lake are all inside Maple Grove, and Elm Creek Park Reserve is here too. A sauna that looks out at any of that water is worth planning carefully.
Shoreland rules can decide how close a building sits to a lake, and the city is the one to ask. Get that answer first. Then we talk about which way the window faces and whether the door opens toward the house or the water.
Arbor Lakes and the association question
The Arbor Lakes area has an unusual history. It was a gravel mine, and the lakes there were left behind by the digging. Today it is a shopping and dining district with newer housing around it.
Newer housing in Maple Grove often comes with an association, and associations often have a say on detached buildings. Before you order, find out whether yours reviews them and what it wants to see. Townhome lots with shared grounds are a harder case, since the yard may not be yours to build on. Ask before you get far.
A longer drive, then the last hundred feet
Maple Grove is one of the longer highway runs from our shop, mostly Highway 7 and I-494. The highway part is easy. What takes planning is the last hundred feet from the curb to the pad.
On a subdivision lot that usually means a side yard between two houses, often with a fence in it. On a lake lot it can mean a slope toward the water. We measure and photograph the route on the site visit, and if something needs to move for the day, you know before delivery is scheduled.
Which sauna fits a Maple Grove lot
For a Maple Grove subdivision yard, the 8x12 Tuli is the usual choice and the 6x8 Kota covers the smaller lots. Lake lots with more ground can take the 8x16 Superior for eight or more bathers. A Custom build is for the cases where you want a changing room or a covered porch the standard models do not offer.

Delivery and site prep in Maple Grove
The sauna rides from our shop finished, so the pad has to be level and ready and the route from the street has to be clear on delivery day. If you choose an electric heater, we coordinate with your electrician so power is at the pad. We look at access during the site visit and plan the set around it.
Ask Maple Grove's Community and Economic Development department how a detached sauna is handled on your lot and whether shoreland rules apply near your lake. Check with your association as well if you have one.

Does my Maple Grove HOA have to approve a backyard sauna?
It depends on your covenants, and only your association can answer. Many associations review detached buildings for size, exterior and placement. Ask before you order, and ask for the answer in writing. We can provide the footprint, height and exterior materials of the model you are considering, so the association reviews the actual building.
Have you built a sauna in Maple Grove?
Not yet in Maple Grove. Our nearest finished build is next door in Plymouth, and we have also built in Minnetonka, Chanhassen and Mound. You can see all of them on our projects page before you call, and we come out to walk your yard before you order.
Do you really deliver to Maple Grove from St. Bonifacius?
Yes. Maple Grove is about 40 minutes from our shop by Highway 7 and I-494, and we come out for a site visit before you order as well as for delivery. The sauna is built at the shop by our own crew and arrives finished, so the work on your property is short compared to building in place.
Will we use a sauna through a Maple Grove winter, or just look at it?
You will use it. Cold weather is what a sauna is for. Keep the walk from the back door short and the path shoveled, and have a dry place to hang a towel. The Tuli has a covered cedar entry for exactly that. An electric heater comes on with a switch, and a wood stove gives you a fire to tend.
